FLW's Rotherham United fan pundit has given his verdict on a potential permanent move for Dan Gore
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Rotherham United have had somewhat of an underwhelming first half of the 2025-26 League One season, but in Dan Gore, they have a standout player that they will be hoping and dreaming of keeping for the foreseeable future.
The midfielder has featured 20 times in League One for the Millers, who are hoping to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle under Matt Hamshaw's management - a run of six league matches without a win prior to Christmas though has seen their third tier standing drop.
Gore’s performances in his second loan stint at the New York Stadium - with his first time in South Yorkshire ended early last season after just three appearances due to a hairline fracture in his foot - have earned him a lot of credit, but his current contract with Man United is set to expire at the end of the campaign.
That will leave Rotherham fans dreaming that a permanent movee could be on the cards in the summer of 2026, with Gore likely to have no future at Old Trafford, but the Millers will likely need League One football at the very least to maek that happen.

When asked about a potential deal to keep Gore beyond this season, FLW’s Rotherham fan pundit Tom Eyre claimed it would be a worthwhile investment into the side to try and convince him to sign a permanent deal.
He praised the Man United loanee’s performances, suggesting he’s been a key part of the side and that he has the ability to play at a high level in the Championship if he can add more goals and assists to his game - and that could rule Rotherham out of being a realistic landing spot for him next summer.
“I think Dan Gore is a player that is destined for bigger things than League One,” Eyre told Football League World.
“He’s one of the best midfielders I’ve seen at this level for a while, especially this season.
“He’s someone that is still only 20 years old, his work rate off the ball, his ability off the ball — if he can add goals and assists to his game he’d be one of the best Championship midfielders.
“But honestly I’d love to sign Dan Gore, I’d put a lot of resources into it because I think inevitably it’s an investment.
“He’s a player who can win you the league, so I would love for Rotherham to sign him permanently.
“But I think that, with his ability and how he’s produced this season, it will be tough for us to get him on a permanent.”

Gore likely won’t make it at Man United now, even at the age of 20, and it would be surprising if he signed a long-term deal to remain at Old Trafford beyond his current expiry date of 2026.
But it’s also far from a given that he will want to stay with Rotherham as well, particularly if their recent form continues and they end up in a proper relegation battle in the second half of the season.
The young midfielder is playing well, he’s still only 20 and he will have many options available to him as a free agent if he keeps this up - probably in the Championship.
Rotherham will have to make a big offer financial or show him a path forward for the club for the near future if they are to convince him to stay at this rate - you'd have to say though that Gore will have some better offers on the table than what Hamshaw's side can provide.
