It has been a difficult campaign for the Millers, who find themselves in the relegation zone after a run of six consecutive defeats.

Therefore, the pressure is on going into the January window, and the fans are hoping for a productive month to strengthen Hamshaw’s squad, which appears to be lacking in several departments.

Matt Hamshaw quizzed on potential deal for Sheffield United’s Ryan One

With Rotherham having averaged less than a goal a game so far this season, it would be no surprise if they were in the market for attacking reinforcements.

It has been claimed that Sheffield United’s One is a target for the club, with the 19-year-old currently way down the pecking order at Bramall Lane.

Therefore, a loan move is seen as the next best step for his development, so a move to Rotherham would appear to make sense.

So, Hamshaw was asked about the prospect of One making a temporary move to the League One side, but he was coy about Rotherham’s interest when speaking to the Yorkshire Post, although he did reiterate that he wants new faces through the door.

He's a Sheffield United player. I'm hopeful of bringing some players in.”

Ryan One would benefit from Rotherham United loan spell

As outlined above, Rotherham are in a desperate situation right now, so the January window is going to be pivotal if they are to start climbing the table and getting out of the relegation zone.

All connected to the club will be hoping for a productive window, and bringing in more quality attacking options has to be a priority.

One would appear to fit the bill, as whilst he is unproven, he is highly-rated at Bramall Lane, and his physical attributes would give the Millers something different in attack.

Plus, he will be desperate to prove himself, as he is getting to the stage where he needs to be playing regularly, and he will see his next loan move as a great opportunity to make his mark in the professional game.

Hamshaw’s response is understandable, as most managers play transfers down until they're finalised, but One is the sort of profile that Rotherham should be targeting, although you would expect rival interest in the player.

From Sheffield United’s perspective, Rotherham could offer him first-team football, and that must be their only priority for the teenager over the next few months.

So, it will be intriguing to see how this develops, and whether Rotherham can get this over the line, with Hamshaw hoping One is among many new signings this month.
