The Championnat National game between FC Rouen and Dijon FCO has been cancelled due to security concerns at the Stade Robert-Diochon.
L’Équipe reports that the French Football Federation took the extraordinary step to cancel the game after their request to increase security for the meeting between the two third-division sides could not be met by Rouen.
This appeal from the federation came after Rouen’s last home game saw their president Charles Maarek threatened by supporters. Ultimately, due to Rouen’s alleged inaction in meeting the federation’s concerns, the match against Dijon represented “too many security risks for both spectators and those involved in the match.”
This means that Rouen will be provided with an administrative loss to end the campaign in an episode that only adds to the drama that has surrounded the club this season. Last week, the club’s headquarters and the home of their president were searched by the police over suspicions that there had been an abuse of corporate assets.
