Roy Keane says the “swagger” with which Man Utd’s attackers played against Liverpool reminded him of legendary striker Eric Cantona.

Bruno Fernandes teed up Harry Maguire for a late winner with a gorgeous cross on the volley, handing them their first win at Anfield since 2016.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring just over a minute after the game kicked off, which was cancelled out in the 78th minute by Cody Gakpo.

Although Liverpool created many chances throughout the match, it was arguably United‘s most accomplished performance in the Ruben Amorim era. Following victory over Sunderland before the October international break, they secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time under the manager’s watch.

“The win will give the players belief about winning football matches,” Keane said on Sky Sports after the final whistle. “The key now for this group of players is to keep winning. They have to take it into the game against Brighton.

“They do look like they have goals in this team. That was a big problem last year. Some of the attacking players looked like there was a swagger about them. I liked that.

“Like all these players like Cantona used to do. ‘Give me the ball I can deal with it’. And they dealt with it.”

Amorim had come under intense scrutiny for the team’s performances and his unwillingness to tweak his system, but Keane believes the Portuguese tactician has bought himself a lot of time in the hot seat.

“There’s been criticism,” the Irishman added. “We spoke about [Sir Jim Ratcliffe] saying the manager will be here for the next two or three years. Results will dictate that, but if he can get performances and results like that then he will get three years.”
