Amorim’s lineup for the Manchester derby was reported on nearly 24 hours before the match

Ruben Amorim has admitted it could be “impossible” for Manchester United to get to the bottom of the club’s team news being leaked.

The United boss enjoyed the best result of his reign so far as his side snatched a dramatic derby win over Manchester City on Sunday, scoring twice in the closing minutes to leave the hosts stunned.

Bruno Fernandes equalised with an 88th-minute penalty before Amad Diallo took centre stage, rounding Ederson and finishing from a tight angle to inflict an eight defeat in 11 matches on City.

It was a positive day on the pitch for Amorim but he had questions to answer about matters off it, after he left Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the matchday squad.

The United boss was also quizzed on the fact United’s starting lineup was widely reported the day before the match, continuing a theme of the club’s team news appearing online well before it is made official.

There has been speculation as to who in the United camp is responsible for the leaks and while Amorim accepted it is “not a good thing”, he is not expecting the problem to be quickly resolved.

“I know that story,” Amorim said.

“I don’t know, I think it’s impossible to fix nowadays because you have a lot of people in the club. The players talk with agents.

“I don’t know. You can talk with a friend, so it’s hard to know. It’s not a good thing. But let’s move on and go to the next one and see if they find the next starting XI.”

Rashford and Garnacho both trained on Sunday morning and were then dropped from the United squad, with Amorim confirming that decision was not injury related.

Expanding after the match on his bold call, Amorim said: “They are fighting for the places but for me it’s important for me the performance in training, the performance in game, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with the team-mates, the way you push your team-mates.

“Everything is important in our context in the beginning of changing a lot of things, when people in our club are losing their jobs, we have to put the standards really high.”
