With the winter transfer window fast approaching, Ruben Neves is increasingly becoming the player Manchester United fans should keep an eye on.
Bolstering the midfield is United’s biggest priority as they head into 2026.
Head coach Ruben Amorim is determined to instil control, dominance, and composure in his side. To achieve this, he is intent on adding athletic, dynamic midfielders to his engine room.
Although many of the Red Devils’ leading targets remain out of reach mid-season, INEOS appear to have pinpointed one realistic option in Ruben Neves.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, now commanding play at Al-Hilal, has swiftly emerged as a genuine candidate.
And the latest update from Fabrizio Romano will certainly encourage United fans.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the European transfer specialist revealed:
“Manchester United have spoken to the agents of Ruben Neves regarding opportunities and situations about the player.”
“So far, no concrete negotiations have started with Al Hilal – let’s see what happens with this one.”
Of course, a deal would still need to be agreed with Al-Hilal, with reports suggesting the Saudi Pro League side could demand around £18 million for the Portuguese international.
Even so, United’s move to contact Neves’ entourage represents a significant step in the right direction. This could help them beat Real Madrid to the 28-year-old’s signature.
If United can pull off this deal, Neves’ brilliance and experience should prove invaluable in their push for Champions League qualification. His ability to dictate tempo and bring composure in possession could help Amorim’s side rediscover the midfield dominance they have long yearned for. Featured image Megan Briggs via Getty Images
