Pep Guardiola has handed out a fresh message of support for Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim after a difficult start to life as Old Trafford boss.

Both coaches have endured their varying difficulties in charge of either Manchester club this season, albeit at very different stages of their careers in the Premier League, with Guardiola and City undergoing some sort of a rebuild.

As for Ruben Amorim and his task at Manchester United, the Portuguese coach has been aiming to implement his bold playing philosophy that brought about so much success with Sporting in his home country.

The arrival of the 40-year-old head coach at Old Trafford marked the latest managerial change in a long line of alterations following the exit of Sir Alex Ferguson over a decade ago, with the likes of Erik ten Hag, Jose Mourinho, and David Moyes all having attempted the challenge.

But despite the early struggles experienced by Amorim as Manchester United head coach, he retains the full support of one of his direct rivals in management, with Pep Guardiola insisting that his counterpart must be granted more time to make things work for the club.

Speaking during a recent press conference, Guardiola told reporters of his firm belief that all managers should be granted patience and time to implement their methods, when asked of Ruben Amorim’s start to life as Manchester United coach.

“Always I wish that managers in charge (get time), I don’t pretend. It depends on Man United. Of course every manager needs time, that is obvious,” Pep Guardiola told reporters.

He continued, “But in this world they don’t give you much, and in the big clubs you have to win and if you don’t win you can be in trouble.

“But it’s not easy, arriving in the middle of the season, changing the way you want to play and settling everything. So it’s not easy for everyone, but what’s going to happen at United, I’m sorry but I don’t know.”

Pep Guardiola and Ruben Amorim have already faced off twice as managers of both Manchester clubs this season, and three times across all competitions following Sporting’s clash with City in the UEFA Champions League’s league phase.

However, despite the three meetings this campaign, Guardiola has been unable to defeat Amorim in any meeting, seeing his Manchester City side concede six goals to Sporting and Manchester United in total, scoring just twice with the last clash ending 0-0 at Old Trafford.
