Roma’s transfer market is about to enter its hottest phase, with a clear target now: Joshua Zirkzee.
Sporting Director Frederic Massara has received clear instructions from Gian Piero Gasperini, who intends to raise the bar in attack to secure fourth place and compete on equal terms with the other top clubs in the league until May.
Although the deal has a good chance of taking off, a recurring obstacle weighs on the Roma-Manchester axis.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim himself has complicated the Giallorossi’s plans.
In a recent press conference, the Portuguese coach dashed hopes of an immediate deal, imposing strict conditions on any outgoing move. “No player will leave without first finding a replacement,” Amorim stated firmly, adding that “the team is already short of players.”
The message sent to Trigoria is unequivocal: United will not approve Zirkzee’s transfer until they have a worthy replacement who will provide depth to the Red Devils’ squad.
This position turns the deal into a three-way tie, slowing down a deal that Roma had hoped to complete in early January.
