New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim waxed lyrical over Noussair Mazraoui’s performance against Ipswich Town.
Despite a drab 1-1 draw at Portman Road, the Moroccan was one of the few players who could hold their head high after the display.
Amorim is likely to be far from impressed from what he witnessed with most connected to United on a dark East Anglian evening but Mazraoui will certainly have left a good impression.
It is safe to say that he has currently been the best summer recruit for United and has adapted to life in English football very well indeed.
Mazraoui put in an all-action performance with numerous touches, successful passes and duel wins.
The showing was even more impressive as he was tasked with playing in an unfamiliar role as the right sided centre back in a defensive three.
Speaking to the BBC after the match, it was clear Amorim also felt the same about the Moroccan as many fans currently do.
Amorim bemoaned the current lack of options at centre back at the club but praised the effort of United’s number three.
“We don’t have too many centre-backs so we have to adapt some players. I thought Noussair Mazraoui did very well.”
“He is so smart and is so important for us. He can play anywhere and that kind of player is crucial for our future.”
This is not the first time he has shown his flexibility as he also played as a number 10 for Erik ten Hag away to Fenerbahce last month.
He has also played at right and left back and could conceivably be asked to fill in at the wing back spots in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation moving forward.
