Ruben Blanco has left Olympique de Marseille after his contract was terminated and signed for Girona until the end of the season, the Catalan club said.

The 30-year-old joined Marseille in the summer of 2022 but never established himself, serving mainly as back-up.

He made 12 appearances for OM, keeping four clean sheets and conceding nine goals.

Girona had been seeking a new first-choice goalkeeper this winter and are 12th in La Liga. They brought in Marc-André ter Stegen, 33, on loan from Barcelona.

That signing offered experience but its impact has been limited, with the German sidelined for several months following hamstring surgery.

Blanco, who played nearly 150 times for Celta Vigo, has been chosen to cover in his absence.
