Ruben Dias insists Manchester City’s Premier League record £458 million rebuild has only deepened their appetite for silverware, as he begins life as captain under Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s exit.

"In terms of the role I have, it goes down to trying to be the best version of yourself, and in terms of that, nothing has changed," he told BBC Sport.

"So many people have left and so many winners have left, and now new people have joined with a lot of ambition and people that are desperate to win and that is also what makes the club keep on going."

With Guardiola’s decade at the helm over, Maresca has stepped in with prior experience as a City assistant, and the team have opened the campaign with four straight wins in the Premier League and Champions League. The exits of Rodri, Bernardo Silva and John Stones have been followed by the arrivals of Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi, injecting fresh energy.

"There's obviously many things from training session to some details about the way we press, details about the way we defend and that make all of these Enzo's idea. I feel like everything is making a lot of sense. Everyone is buying into the idea. Everyone's excited about it and there is a lot of joy in training, which is massively important," Dias explained.

At 29, Dias is among the dressing room’s senior figures and has extended his contract until 2029. "I am still very ambitious."

City visit Old Trafford on Sunday, the first major test of the Maresca era and an early chance for the new signings to experience the Manchester derby.
