The Portugal international’s appointment was confirmed by City manager Enzo Maresca during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League clash with Coventry City in the third round.

Dias succeeds Bernardo, who left the club this summer after his contract expired, joining Real Madrid as a free agent.

Maresca also revealed that Erling Haaland, Marc Guéhi and Gianluigi Donnarumma will form the rest of City’s leadership group this season.

The Italian also had some positive news on the injury front, confirming that Matheus Nunes is fit and available for selection.

Maresca was also asked about Enzo Fernández, who joined City from Chelsea for €145 million. The manager described the Argentina international as “a winner” and made it clear that he knows the midfielder very well.

The pair previously worked together at Chelsea, with Maresca managing Fernández on 79 occasions. They also enjoyed success together, winning the 2025 Club World Cup and the 2024/25 Conference League.
