Sheffield United have confirmed the signing of promising centre-back Tyler Bindon on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old becomes new Blades boss Ruben Selles’ first signing since taking over at Bramall Lane this summer.

Bindon only joined Forest in February 2025 from Reading, but returned to the Royals on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign, a spell that proved to be impressive. The New Zealand international was a standout performer in League One, making 44 starts and playing a vital role in Reading’s solid campaign. His contribution to the team earned him Reading’s Player of the Season award.

His performances also drew praise back home. Bindon was awarded the Emerging Talent honour at New Zealand’s prestigious Halberg Awards, a nod to his rapid development and growing influence for club and country.

This will not be the first time Ruben Selles has worked with the 6ft3 defender. Not only did they spend the first part of last season together at Reading, the pair previously spent the full 2023/24 season together, where Bindon made 43 appearances under Selles’ guidance.

During that campaign, the New Zealander scored two goals, registered one assist, and helped the Royals keep 12 clean sheets, showcasing both his defensive reliability and presence in the opposition box.

Now reunited at Bramall Lane, Bindon is relishing the chance to test himself in the Championship.

Tyler Bindon Speaks After Penning Loan Move to Sheffield United

“I’m very grateful to be here and it’s amazing I get this opportunity,” Bindon told the club’s media. “Ruben is a great person and coach, and I feel I can still learn so much more from him, and it will be special to do that here at United. I’m always looking forward to any new challenge in football. The game has always been big in my family with my mum playing for New Zealand when I was growing up. I fell in love with the game and my dad is passionate about it too, so it has always been in my life.”

On the pitch, Bindon describes himself as a composed, ball-playing defender who prides himself on keeping clean sheets. “I’d like to say I’m calm but it will be up to the United fans to decide whether that’s true or not, he exclaimed. “I love playing with the ball, I like to keep clean sheets; you win by keeping clean sheets. My aim at the end of the day is to keep clean sheets and build up from the back and stay composed and calm on the ball.”
