Rubo Iranzo is finding the minutes and belief away from Mestalla that eluded him at Valencia, capped by a standout display for Zaragoza that drew firm praise from Ibai Gómez. According to Superdeporte, his performance underlined why the coach rates his potential.
Deployed in the middle, the Valencia-born defender won his duels, was practically unbeatable at the back and excelled in build-up. Comfortable at centre-half and capable on the right, he showed the traits that once marked him out at Paterna.
Gómez said those selected had shown themselves a cut above and stressed that Iranzo fits what he asks of his centre-backs, notably defending space, imposing himself in duels and playing out. He added it is only a matter of time before the player commands significant money.
Iranzo left Valencia this summer after two seasons outside Carlos Corberán’s plans, with few chances to stake a first-team claim. Valencia allowed his exit without a fee but kept 25% of any future sale and a right of first refusal, clauses that could grow in value if Gómez’s view proves right.
Early in this new chapter, Zaragoza are already discussing the heights his value could reach, while his latest outing strengthens the case to settle at centre-back and develop from there.
