Rudi Völler has signed a contract extension with the DFB until 2028.
The 64-year-old will remain in his role as director of the senior men’s national team and U21 national team until the upcoming European Championship in Great Britain and Ireland.
Völler’s contract with the DFB until 2028 now aligns with Julian Nagelsmann’s contract which was recently extended until the conclusion of UEFA Euro 2028. The decision to extend Völler’s contract was unanimously approved by the Supervisory Board.
Speaking on the decision, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, said: “Rudi Völler was and remains a key component in helping the national team return to winning ways after three disappointing tournaments. He is of central importance to that national coach and his team, as well as to the entire DFB. Therefore, it was a personal priority for me to convince Rudi to continue working with us after Julian’s contract extension. Together, they have sparked a new euphoria surrounding the national team. For me, it was therefore clear: ‘Never change a winning team’. I am delighted that this combination will continue.”
Völler added: “The national team and the entire DFB team have grown close to my heart. Of course, the exciting European Championship at home, but above all the collaboration with Julian Nagelsmann played a decisive role in this. I’m very much looking forward to continuing the path we’ve taken with Julian and his team until the next European Championship. We’ve already made great progress but we’re not yet where we want to be. We have the highest standards and goals and believe we can achieve them with this inspiring team.”
