André Gomes has confirmed his departure from Alverca and looks likely to rejoin Benfica for pre-season. According to Glorioso 1904, the young goalkeeper is leaving after a year on loan from the Lisbon club.
In a farewell message on social media, his note thanked Alverca for their faith and reflected that the spell had improved him as a player and, above all, as a person.
He also stressed that Alverca should not be viewed as a small club, pointing to passionate supporters who follow the team everywhere and a workforce that labours daily for the badge.
Gomes credited a talented and ambitious dressing room for what was achieved and acknowledged the coaching staff for opportunities and guidance that helped his development.
He added appreciation for the wider staff and board for their support and welcome. If he does return to Benfica, the 22-year-old would be competing with Samuel Soares and Anatoliy Trubin.
