Rui Costa and Benfica’s SAD set a January plan around Seixal graduates, balancing exits and renewals to streamline the squad. According to Glorioso 1904, the window in Portugal brought few moves but followed a clear pathway.
Players such as Leandro Santos and Rafael Obrador were moved on from the first-team picture, where opportunities looked limited. The aim was to open places for Benfica Campus talents Anísio Cabral, José Neto and Daniel Banjaqui.
Agreements for new deals are in place for Anísio and José Neto, to be formalised once they turn 18. The forward reaches that milestone on 15 February, and the left-back has his birthday on 19 April. Banjaqui is also now closer to renewing.
All three are under-17 world champions and have already caught the eye. Anísio scored with his first touch on debut in the 4-0 win over Estrela da Amadora. Banjaqui has started twice under José Mourinho, in that game against the Reboleira side and in the 0-0 at Tondela, while Neto logged minutes in the 2-0 loss to Napoli and the 4-0 victory over Moreirense.
There could still be movement on João Rego in the next hours. The Greek market remains open until tomorrow and PAOK are monitoring the forward closely. The Thessaloniki club have already made contact, and the player’s future rests with Benfica.
