According to Glorioso 1904, Rui Costa joined leading Portuguese and international football figures at the wake of former Benfica goalkeeper Silvino Louro, who died recently aged 67.
Leaving the ceremony, the Benfica president offered condolences and said Silvino was a defining figure of his generation in Portuguese football, echoing sentiments he had heard across the country.
Costa reflected that he was proud to step up to the Benfica first team in a group that included Silvino, Neno and Manuel Bento, and noted with sadness that all three have now passed away.
He said Silvino had been close to him and very supportive, adding that he retains the best memories of a great man and a great goalkeeper who helped shape a generation of Portuguese keepers.
José Mourinho also attended the wake. Earlier, the 63-year-old from Setúbal wrote a farewell message to his friend and colleague, saying he would keep remembering him warmly within the Mourinho family and keep hearing his pre-match words, before wishing him rest.
