Rui Costa has lost an analyst, with Nuno Cesário leaving Benfica after 10 seasons and preparing to join Monaco.
According to Glorioso 1904, the 35-year-old ended a spell that began in 2015/16 and is preparing to take up a new role at Monaco.
During his time at Benfica, Cesário worked under Rui Vitória, Jorge Jesus and Roger Schmidt. His exit was marked on social media with a farewell message alongside an image of the league title won under the German coach.
In the post, he thanked Benfica, said it had been a pleasure and that they would see each other again. The message drew numerous reactions from colleagues, including José Mourinho’s assistant, Ricardo Rocha, who wished him success and thanked him for everything.
His departure comes in the same week that Pedro Barreiras left after 16 years, the physiotherapist signing for Paris Saint-Germain as part of adjustments to the professional football staff.
Benfica have also confirmed the transfer of Ivan Lima, a 21-year-old winger who had been used by José Mourinho, to Poland. It is the second departure after José Melro.
