Rui Costa has tabled a new offer for Nélson Veríssimo as Benfica plan for next season, but the coach remains undecided. Despite talk of a deal being close, no final decision has been made.

O Jogo reports there is no agreement in place to renew and that Veríssimo will present his decision to the board, led by Rui Costa, by the end of the week.

Having completed his third season with Benfica’s B team, the 49-year-old reflected on 2025/26 and said the work had been positive, pointing to the growth and maturity shown by several players.

Asked to highlight standouts from the campaign, he picked Miguel Figueiredo, José Neto, Gonçalo Moreira and Diogo Ferreira. He also underlined strong coordination with José Mourinho.

Benfica are also working on another renewal at Seixal. Vítor Vinha, who oversees the under-23 and junior sides, has an offer to continue and is expected to accept.
