Chega has left the door open to delaying the centralised sale of Portuguese football TV rights after talks with Benfica figures, including Rui Costa.
According to Glorioso 1904, the meeting took place at the Assembleia da República and revisited a sensitive issue for the future of the domestic competitions. Parliamentary leader Pedro Pinto said circumstances have changed since the law was drafted.
He indicated the party is assessing whether the framework can begin in 2028, noting that a delay could be required or not. The dossier remains under review.
Pinto added that Chega will hear from other stakeholders, including the Liga and the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol. Benfica has argued for suspending the centralisation process.
The talks also covered Benfica FM, whose licensing was rejected by the ERC. Chega supported the project and questioned whether the regulator’s stated reasons were convincing.
Pinto said the party will urgently summon the ERC to the Comissão de Cultura e Desporto to explain its stance, while reiterating support for the club’s proposal.
