Benfica president Rui Costa will hold a press conference at 18:00 on Thursday at the Estádio da Luz to review the 2025/26 season and take questions on the club’s major issues.

According to Glorioso 1904, he is expected to draw a line under the José Mourinho chapter and, for the first time, explain the appointment of Marco Silva. The briefing comes on the eve of the new head coach’s formal presentation.

Costa had promised to address members immediately after the league ended on 16 May, but the bench succession altered the timeline. Mourinho rejected a renewal proposal and returned to Real Madrid, which forced the SAD to focus on appointing his successor and delayed the planned address.

Marco Silva has since been confirmed as Benfica’s head coach. The 48-year-old has signed a deal through June 2028, with an option to extend to 2029.

His appointment was announced shortly after Benfica confirmed Mourinho’s departure, closing a high-profile saga and starting a new cycle at the Luz.
