Benfica are back in the market for a striker, with Rui Costa exploring a move for Italy under-20 forward Jeff Ekhator. Record writes that the 19-year-old Genoa player appeals to the hierarchy and that initial enquiries have been made over a possible transfer.
Rui Costa has turned focus to adding another centre-forward to José Mourinho’s squad. The head coach wants the addition completed in January.
Despite Vangelis Pavlidis and Franjo Ivanovic being available, Mourinho is seeking a different profile to the Greek and the Croatian. Ekhator is currently a substitute at Genoa.
With Rafa Silva virtually agreed, pending only official confirmation, Benfica have turned attention to other areas to be addressed in the squad.
Ekhator is valued at 7 million euros. This season he has played 19 competitive matches for Genoa, 17 in Serie A and two in the Italian Cup, totalling 521 minutes and scoring three goals.
