According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica, led by Rui Costa, have identified Midtjylland’s Denil Castillo as a possible summer target as they plan reinforcements with the winter market closed.
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian has been tracked for about a year by the club’s scouting department and is a team-mate of the in-form Franculino Djú.
A defensive midfielder, Castillo would add to options that already include Enzo Barrenechea and Manu Silva. He joined Midtjylland this season from Shakhtar Donetsk for around 5 million euros and has been one of their standout performers.
Benfica are not alone in monitoring him, with Premier League clubs Brentford and Bournemouth also following his progress.
This season Castillo has played 32 games for Midtjylland, 14 in the Europa League, 13 in the Danish league and three in the Danish Cup. Across 1,962 minutes he has recorded five goals and six assists. He is valued at 5 million euros.
