Rui Patricio has retired from professional football at 37, ending 19 consecutive seasons at the highest level.
He came through Sporting’s academy and spent 12 years in their first team, making 467 appearances for the Portuguese club.
Patricio joined Wolves in 2018 after Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had earned promotion back to the Premier League, and he was installed as first-choice immediately. He departed in 2021 having made 127 appearances.
After Wolves he moved to Italy, featuring for Roma and Atalanta, before heading to Abu Dhabi with Al Ain. He signed a short-term deal in May and played twice before announcing his retirement.
In total he recorded 731 club appearances across five teams and won 108 caps for Portugal, lifting Euro 2016 and the 2018/19 Nations League.
Wolves marked the news with a congratulatory message on social media, and Cristiano Ronaldo also applauded his career.
