It seems that the former Wydad coach, South African Rulani Mokwena, is proud of some things that distinguish him from other coaches on the African continent, which he personally considers as strengths that he is proud of and that set him apart from other coaches on the African continent.

Following a year at the helm of Morocco's Wydad Athletic Club, Rhulani Mokwena now commands the dugout at one of Algeria's premier football institutions.

His tenure in Algiers has commenced with exceptional promise, presenting a stark contrast to his challenging initial phase in Casablanca, where he faced the task of assembling a new squad. Under the 38-year-old's guidance, Mouloudia Club d'Alger has maintained an undefeated streak from the season's kick-off. Their record in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 stands impressively at seven victories and a single draw from eight outings.

What did Mokwena say about what makes him unique?

During a virtual meeting with SAFJA members, Mokwena—the architect of Mamelodi Sundowns' four championship victories—reflected on the personal evolution he has undergone since moving to North African football. He identified a conscious decision to retreat from the media spotlight, which was once a hallmark of his persona, as the most profound change.

He revealed that his experience has taught him the value of operating away from the public eye. "I’ve learnt that there’s a lot of reward in silence, working a little bit harder behind the scenes, speaking less in the media and even on social media," Mokwena stated.

His public presence has noticeably diminished, a shift he attributes to both circumstance and a new personal philosophy. "You hear far less from me than probably it was the norm in South Africa. Maybe that’s because I did a lot of press conferences, and it was mandatory. I just like to sit back and watch my work speak for itself. That’s something I have learnt about myself that I don’t always have to speak or defend myself or focus on things that won’t help me."
