MCA go atop Ligue 1 table after last-gasp victory

MC Alger have moved to the summit of the table after securing a hard-fought 3-2 win over log leaders MC Oran on Tuesday.

The defending champions had to dig deep as they played a large chunk of the second half with 10-men, with Yacine Hamadouche coming clutch with a stoppage time winner.

Mokwena’s men currently top the Algerian Ligue 1 standings with seven points after three matches played and are yet to taste defeat.

Now, the South African mentor will switch his attention to the CAF Champions League where his team is set to take on FC Fassell of Liberia in the first leg of the first preliminary round on Saturday, 20 September.

Prior to the second leg penciled in for 27 September in Algiers, MCA will square off against Josef Zinnbauer’s JS Kabylie on 25 September.

It remains to be seen whether Mokwena will meet the club’s expectations of retaining the league title and lifting the coveted CAF Champions League trophy.
