Marseille were dismantled 3-0 at Club Bruges on Wednesday, their tactical plan unpicked and key men exposed. Geronimo Rulli conceded three and Roberto De Zerbi endured a night to forget.

According to L'Équipe, De Zerbi failed to find solutions as his side lacked intensity across the pitch. Mamadou Diakhon struck in the fourth minute after a Rulli error, Romeo Vermant added a neat pivot finish on 11 minutes, and Aleksandar Stankovic sealed it on 79 after Carlos Forbs’ burst.

Stankovic had earlier supplied the first two goals and impressed in midfield. Forbs was a constant threat on the right, with Diakhon troubling the opposite flank. Raphael Onyedika worked tirelessly and Joel Ordonez prevented Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from scoring on 60 minutes, as Bruges averaged six and a half.

Marseille averaged three point three, with Rulli graded three and Hamed Junior Traoré just two. Leonardo Balerdi, Nayef Aguerd and Facundo Medina struggled, while Amir Murillo was booked in the 22nd minute before being withdrawn. Mason Greenwood was lively before the break and tested Simon Mignolet on 78 minutes.

De Zerbi was rated two. He started with a hybrid shape, brought on Paixao at half-time and later moved to 4-2-4 with Aubameyang, but the response lacked variety and determination.
