Rummenigge hails Harry Kane as Bayern’s greatest coup, eyes contract extension after record-shattering season | OneFootball

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has called Bayern Munich's signing of Harry Kane one of the most important coups in the club's history.

Kane has been a revelation since signing for Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur for an initial club-record fee of €100m (£82m) in 2023.

The England captain has scored 138 goals in 141 games for the German giants and has emerged as the frontrunner for the Ballon d'Or, following his role in the club's record-breaking season.

Bayern have scored 113 goals and counting in theBundesliga to set a new divisional record. Kane has netted 53 times across all competitions, the best return of his club career. No player in Europe's top five league has scored more goals than Kane, who is comfortably clear in the race for the European Golden Shoe.

Kane has been linked with a potential return to the Premier League, where he trails Alan Shearer's all-time goal record by just 47 goals. However, Bayern's regular pursuit of major trophies and Kane's happiness in Munich have cooled that speculation.

The 32-year-old will hope to inspire Bayern past Paris Saint-Germain in theChampions League tonight. The Bavarians travel to the Parc des Princes to take on the European champions, in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

Ahead of the clash, Bayern board member Rummenigge revealed that the club are keen to agree a new contract with Kane.

He called the forward's arrival at the Allianz Arena one of the club's best-ever signings.

"Getting Harry Kane to Munich was an important coup in the history of the club. It is known that he had a release clause," Rummenigge toldt-online.

"He didn't trigger that and signalled he would definitely stay in Munich. And, as agreed, those responsible in the operational area will hold talks with him at some stage after the season with the clear aim of extending his contract."
