Runjaić appointed Legia boss | OneFootball

Legia Warsaw announced German coach Kosta Runjaić as their new boss on Monday. The former Pogoń Szczecin coach has signed a deal at Łazienkowska 3 until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Runjaić’s spell in Western Pomerania was a relatively successful one. The club finished each of the last two Ekstraklasa seasons on the podium, and earned qualification to the preliminary rounds of European competition.

Back in March, the German coach announced that he was to leave the club, with Pogoń announcing his replacement, Jens Gustafsson, soon after. Even then, it was almost a certainty that the 50-year-old would be unveiled as coach of the Wojskowi over the summer, in place of Alexander Vuković.

Prior to taking the helm at Pogoń, Vienna-born Runjaić had spent the entirety of his coachoing career in his homeland. His most successful spells had come at SV Darmstadt and 1.FC Kaiserslautern; while other stints at MSV Duisburg and 1860 Munich were mixed.

He joins a Legia team which will be even more hungry for success than usual, after a hugely disappointing domestic campaign which saw them relinquish their title and miss out on European football for the first time since 2010/11.
