Russell Martin explains Jake Evans absence and expects duo to return at Burton | OneFootball

Jake Evans and Bobby De Cordova-Reid missed Leicester City’s pre-season win at Bristol Rovers as a precaution, with Russell Martin expecting them to feature at Burton Albion on Saturday.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, both were surprise omissions from the 22-man group at the Memorial Stadium, having each played 45 minutes in the victory over Northampton Town three days earlier. City visit Burton at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

Kirsten Otchere and Nathan Opoku scored against Rovers as Martin’s side made it two wins in two this summer.

Martin said pre-season workloads are being carefully managed, noting one player is 17 and still adjusting to the intensity, while another is 33 and took a kick on Saturday. He added there was no need to rush them, even though both wanted to play.

The medical staff advised waiting until Saturday.

New arrivals Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy will join the squad for the Burton fixture. The Foxes then head to Spain for a week-long warm weather camp, where they will face Cadiz and Malaga.
