Russell Martin provides Ben Nelson update and says Will Alves will be involved | OneFootball

Russell Martin has delivered injury news after Leicester City's defeat to Genoa, with Ben Nelson's knee being assessed and updates on Will Alves, Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy.

As reported by LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Nelson went off in the first half after treatment to his right knee. Alves was not in the squad at the King Power Stadium and also missed a behind-closed-doors loss to Coventry City earlier in the day at Seagrave.

Both have featured prominently in pre-season. Alves, back from his Huddersfield Town loan, scored against Northampton Town and Burton Albion, and the 21-year-old has impressed on the right after Abdul Fatawu's switch to Ipswich Town. He trained individually on Friday due to a minor knock and was on the grass on Saturday.

Martin said the extent of Nelson's problem should be clearer in the next couple of days and he hopes it is not serious. He praised the defender's development and stressed they would monitor how the knee reacts.

New arrivals Chaplin and McCarthy also sat out with minor knocks. Martin is hopeful both could feature in next weekend's Carabao Cup first-round tie at Northampton Town, and if not, he is confident they will be ready for the League One opener away at Notts County. He was firmer on Alves, saying the winger will definitely be involved next week and that Chaplin and McCarthy depend on how the week unfolds, with no risks to be taken.
