Russell Martin is currently the favourite to succeed Will Still as manager of Southampton.

The Saints sacked Still on Sunday with the club just three points above 22nd-place Sheffield United following a run of three successive defeats.

The former Lens and Reims manager started the season well with three wins in his opening five games across all competitions. However, Still's side won just one of their subsequent 11 games leading to his dismissal.

According to the bookies, Southampton have not been put off by Russell Martin's disastrous stint with Rangers and are tempted to bring their former manager back to the club.

Martin succeeded in getting Southampton promoted to the Premier League in his first season but was let go after a poor start to life in the top flight.

As well as Martin, former Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is the second favourite while other names referenced include Brendan Rodgers, Ralph Hasenhüttl, and Gary O’Neil.

Southampton are unlikely to have a new manager in place by the time of their next fixture when they face a trip to Loftus Road to take on Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday.
