Ruud Gullit namechecks Celtic as he shuts down Frank Rijkaard management return | OneFootball

Ruud Gullit has refused to completely rule out a return to management while revealing former Netherlands teammate Frank Rijkaard would reject Celtic if the club ever came calling.

Rijkaard has been out of management since leaving Saudi Arabia in 2013 following a distinguished coaching career which included spells with Barcelona and Galatasaray.

The Dutchman won two La Liga titles and the Champions League during five years at the Nou Camp, but Gullit insists there is no prospect of his former AC Milan teammate being tempted back into management – even by Celtic.

Speaking to ComeOn, Gullit said: “Frank Rijkaard is retired. He doesn’t want to go back into football management. He doesn’t want to do it. Not even if Celtic came and spoke to him. He has had enough of it.”

Celtic have been associated with several high-profile managerial names whenever the Parkhead position has become available, but Gullit believes Rijkaard has firmly closed the door on returning to the dugout.

The former Chelsea and Newcastle United manager was less definitive when asked about his own future.

Gullit has also been away from management for several years and currently works predominantly in television, although the 1987 Ballon d’Or winner admitted an irresistible opportunity could potentially tempt him back into football management.

Gullit said: “As for me, I enjoy what I do now. Working in television is nice. Of course, if the right offer came in, and it is an offer you cannot refuse, you would have to react to it, but I don’t know.

“I see the game as a manager. I’ve done it before. I know how to do it. But I don’t know how I would react to a job offer today.”
