Former Chelsea player and manager Ruud Gullit seems to have judged Chelsea’s style of play completely opposite.
Gullit is one of the best players to have ever played the game and we were very lucky to get to see him in Chelsea blue for a short period. He then went on to become Chelsea manager, although that can’t really be described as a success and neither can his coaching career overall.
But as a player, Gullit was super intelligent and technically great. He was a joy to watch and made the game look easy.
His latest comments on Chelsea though are rather confusing, because he is claiming that they play in a way that is completely opposite to their style of play and the club ethos of possession based football.

“Chelsea are a little bit too frantic for my liking,” Gullit exclusively told TEAMtalk. There’s no player or leader of reference in that team who gives them a little bit of peace or holds the ball without giving it away – that’s something that they lack a little bit. It’s all too nervous on the pitch when they play.
“You don’t always need to attack when you have the ball. Sometimes you can lure the opposition out of position and then punish them, but they don’t have that patience or willingness to hold the ball. It’s as if they’re always playing at 100 miles an hour. It’s too much, in my opinion.”
Chelsea basically play the opposite to this, and many fans have even complained that they play too slow and pass sideways and backwards too often. So basically, the opposite from what Gullit is describing above.
How very confusing. Does he even watch Chelsea play anymore!?
