Ryan Reynolds and fellow co-owner Rob Mac have been given a reality check after declaring Phil Parkinson has a job for life at Wrexham. According to Wales Online, pundits warned the vow could come back to haunt them and flagged a possible loophole.
The remark came in an interview marking five years since their takeover. Parkinson has overseen three promotions, lifting Wrexham from the National League to the Championship, where they are pushing for a play-off spot.
Mac said: "I just don't see a scenario where Phil Parkinson gets fired. From our perspective, he's got the job for life." He was speaking to The Athletic.
Reynolds added: "I trust Phil. I genuinely trust him. He just has to say it's not right. That's it. No follow-up question."
Former Newcastle and Republic of Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick urged caution. "It's tough when you come out and say that quote about him having a job for life. That quote is never going to go away, and it will resurface, unfortunately, when the manager leaves." He was speaking to Fruity King.
Ex-Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips also questioned the pledge but saw no need for change. "At the minute, Phil Parkinson has done an incredible job. At the minute, I don't see any reason why they would change." He told BestBettingSites.co.uk.
