Wrexham are pushing to sign Hammarby right-back Hampus Skoglund, with the fee potentially rising to £4m. Mainz are also in the race for the 21-year-old.

FotbollDirekt reports that Hammarby are unwilling to accept bids below 45 million Krona, around £3.6m, and could hold out for £4m. Wrexham are understood to have explored a package worth about £2.6m.

Skoglund has made 65 first-team appearances for Hammarby over the past 18 months, contributing seven assists. The Stockholm club finished second in last season’s Allsvenskan.

Wrexham sit ninth in the Championship, one point off the play-offs, after four straight wins over Christmas. Manager Phil Parkinson is keen to strengthen following a £33m summer outlay.

The club, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, welcomed minority investors in December in a deal that reportedly values Wrexham at £350m. Officials say funds will be available this month, although recruitment is expected to be calmer and opportunistic, shaped by injuries, depth and availability.
