Sabri Lamouchi has reportedly been sacked after one World Cup game, a 5-1 defeat by Sweden, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
Lamouchi is well known to Leeds United supporters from his time at Nottingham Forest in 2019/20, when Marcelo Bielsa’s side lost at the City Ground in February and the head coach later spoke of a loss of faith. Luke Ayling gave a visibly shaken post-match interview as he tried to make sense of the display.
The defeat left Leeds with one win from six. They drew 1-1 at Brentford a few days later, then surged to five straight victories and 12 wins from their final 14 fixtures to be crowned champions.
Forest under Lamouchi managed three more wins in their last 15, finished seventh and missed the play-offs on goal difference. He was dismissed in October 2020, then coached Al-Duhail, had half a season at Cardiff City, and was later sacked by Al-Riyadh and Al-Diriyah before taking the Tunisia job in January.
The 54-year-old’s heavy opening loss appears to have cost him his job, with reports on Monday suggesting a mid-tournament dismissal. Tunisia now face Japan and the Netherlands in Group F as they try to revive their campaign.
