Kings Park Rangers say non-league footballer and father Saburi Olayinka Adeniji has been declared brain dead after a severe injury, with a fundraiser launched for his family.

Adeniji was admitted to hospital on 15 January with a serious brain stem injury. His condition worsened and he is now considered to be imminently dying.

Doctors have classified him as brain dead because of the extent of the damage.

His wife and four-year-old daughter are in Nigeria and are preparing to travel to the UK before he passes away or life support is withdrawn.

The GoFundMe aims to cover their travel and accommodation, with further support for his wife and to secure his daughter’s future.

The appeal highlights his devotion to his daughter and his efforts to provide her with a good education and a better future. It says funds will also help his wife adjust after the loss and support the child’s education and wellbeing in Nigeria.

It urges the football community to come together and says that donations or sharing the page will help. At the time of publication, more than £7,400 has been raised, close to the £8,000 target.
