Sadio Mané has not retired from international football, despite a wave of social media posts suggesting otherwise.

The rumour stemmed from a bogus statement presented as coming from the Senegal forward and carried by Senegalese outlet Le Quotidien.

According to Sport News Africa, the player’s entourage denied the claim. The document is said to have been generated by artificial intelligence.

L'Équipe had relayed the incorrect information in error and has apologised.

The former Liverpool forward has not addressed the issue since the Africa Cup of Nations, when he said it would be his last AFCON.
