Matveï Safonov suffered a blow to the head in the warm-up at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Friday night, yet the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper kept his place to face Lille.

According to L'Équipe, the Russian collided with the European champions' goalkeeping coach, Borja Alvarez, while attacking a high ball. He was treated after impacts to the head, neck and back, then left the pitch.

As he received treatment, Lucas Chevalier and Alessandro Longoni continued their preparations.

Safonov had been named in the starting XI an hour before kick-off, but doubt lingered until he reappeared in the tunnel alongside the starters.

Moments before the scheduled 20:45 start, the stadium announcer confirmed his inclusion. Kick-off was pushed back by 15 minutes due to ticketing issues, giving PSG extra time to make their decision.
