Saint-Étienne are close to signing Slovenia international Tamar Svetlin.

According to Le Progres, while head coach Ian Cathro has said little about late-window plans, the hierarchy are finalising a deal. An agreement with Polish side Korona Kielce, who finished 11th last season, is in place for a fee a little over two million euros.

Svetlin, 25, has seven caps and is comfortable across midfield. He spent his entire career in Slovenia before moving to Poland for last season.

He would strengthen a department central to Cathro, who has often started four midfielders in hybrid roles. He would be the fourth arrival in those positions after Breum, Ballo and Csongvai.

The Slovenian is expected in Saint-Étienne shortly for routine medical checks, ahead of a proposed four-year contract with a further one-year option.
