According to reports in France, 19-year-old Saint-Étienne defender William Gomis was shot dead on Sunday.
The circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death are not yet clear, but Saint-Étienne website Poteaux Carrés report information provided to them by a former club scout named Mohamed Aït-Hida, who claims Gomis was shot and killed in La Seyne-sur-Mer.
Gomis – who was said to be a relative of former Saint-Étienne and France striker Bafétimbi – never played for Les Verts’ first team, but played 18 games for the club’s B team in the Championnat National last season.
The Ligue 1 club are yet make a statement regarding this terrible tragedy.
