Foot Mercato are reporting that Swiss Super League side Saint-Gall have opened negotiations with AS Monaco to sign out-of-favour forward Willem Geubbels (21).
Geubbels, once a prodigy in Olympique Lyonnais’ academy, was signed by the Principality club for €20m in the summer of 2018. However, things haven’t gone to plan since the arrival of the former France youth international at Monaco. He has only made 17 appearances for Les Monégasques, scoring just one goal.
Last season, he was loaned out to Ligue 1 rivals FC Nantes, were he scored three goals in 26 appearances. He returned to the Principality in the summer but has yet to make an appearance since. For large parts of the season, he has been training individually, away from the rest of the first-team squad, however, during the World Cup break, he was reintegrated into collective training.
However, the desire, as it was in the summer, remains to sell the Frenchman. Foot Mercato are now reporting that Saint-Gall have opened negotiations to sign the striker. With just six months remaining on his current deal at Monaco, the Swiss side are hoping to avoid paying any fee, although Monaco want to ensure a percentage of any future sale.
