Bukayo Saka made just his second England appearance of 2025 against Wales on Thursday, having missed out on the March and September international breaks through injury.
There will be limited opportunities for Saka to impress new boss Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 World Cup, so even a friendly match like this one was worth taking seriously.
Saka did just that, scoring a fantastic finish and winning England’s Player of the Match award.

Saka’s recent injuries haven’t only affected his England participation, as he’s also missed key matches with Arsenal. But speaking after Thursday’s game, the winger suggested he’s getting back into a rhythm now.
“Obviously I started the season and picked up an injury, which killed me a bit but I’m starting to feel good again,” Saka said.
“I’m still not at my sharpest, but I’m starting to feel good again and I’ve scored in the last three games, so I’m happy with that and I’m going to continue like that.”

It’s certainly been a strong October for Saka so far, with the Arsenal star netting in all three of his appearances against Olympiacos, West Ham, and now Wales.
Saka will likely be in the England team again on Tuesday, as they travel away to Latvia for a World Cup qualifier. So it was good to see the 24-year-old withdrawn after 70 minutes of the Wales game.
The early substitution and the five-day break between fixtures should help Saka to avoid putting too much stress on his muscles as he works to reach full match sharpness.
