Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick to help Trabzonspor beat champions Galatasaray 4-0 in the Turkish Super Lig. He also assisted Noah Saviolo’s goal.
Salah is the first player to be involved in four goals against Galatasaray in a Super Lig match in over ten seasons.
The Egyptian all-time great opened the scoring in the fourth minute, racing clear before slotting past Ugurcan Cakir.
Galatasaray, with their squad of superstars, including Rafael Leao, Leroy Sane, and Ilkay Gundogan, poured forward with talisman Victor Osimhen unavailable through injury.
Unfortunately for them, it allowed Salah all the space in the world behind their defence.
Salah set up Saviolo, who coolly curled a delightful finish beyond the Turkish keeper to double the lead moments later.
Trabzonspor had tamed Galatasaray before half-time as Salah bagged his second after Davinson Sanchez was dispossessed.
The 34-year-old completed the hat-trick with another goal on 80 before wheeling away in celebration, taking his shirt off after yet another decisive performance.
He has now registered seven goals and two assists in six Super Lig matches to help his side up to fifth place on the table. They are now within three points of Galatasaray.
Salah tops the goalscoring chart and looks set to make his mark in the Turkish league after years of dominating the Premier League.
Even at his age, it is clear Salah can still do a terrific job for Liverpool, who haven’t quite properly replaced him following his departure this summer.
The Reds signed Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz, two players who prefer to be on the left, in addition to Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha, to replace him.
They still miss a natural, lethal forward running down their right wing like Salah and will need to fill that void soon.
