West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug wants to leave the club, but his hefty salary could be a sticking point.

Injuries have hindered Fullkrug since he joined the club. Capped 24 times by Germany, the 32-year-old has scored only three goals in 27 outings and is yet to open his account this season.

His agent is seeking out an escape route and offering him to clubs such as AC Milan, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (via Milan News).

However, ‘he has a very high salary at West Ham’, which makes any deal difficult for the cash-strapped Rossoneri. He is reportedly on £112,500 per week.

His salary could scupper any chance of West Ham shifting him off the books in January.

West Ham now face a crucial decision as January approaches. If they are serious about refreshing their attack, moving Fullkrug on must become a priority.

His wages, output and overall fit haven’t justified keeping him around. The longer they wait, the harder it becomes to find a suitable exit.

West Ham are crying out for a young, lethal, hungry forward who can grow with the squad and offer a cutting edge that Fullkrug has never provided.

Moving him on would free up both budget and squad space, allowing West Ham to reset and bring in the kind of attacking profile they desperately need.

Even though the market is not exactly overflowing with quality strikers trying to change clubs mid-season, there are still a few options to choose from.

Joshua Zirkzee (Manchester United), Ivan Toney (Al-Ahli), Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal), Romeo Vermant (Club Brugge), and Lucas Stassin (AS Saint-Etienne) are viable options.
