Salem Al-Dawsari is nearing a comeback for Al-Hilal after stepping up his rehabilitation from the injury that has kept him out in recent weeks.

Arriyadiyah reports that the captain has been working daily at the Al-Majidiya centre in Riyadh and is close to finishing the final phase, which would clear a path back to group training.

He is splitting sessions between the conditioning gym and the pitch as his team-mates prepare to resume training on Wednesday ahead of upcoming fixtures.

Progress has been encouraging, but there is no confirmation he will feature in the Clasico against Al-Ittihad on 10 October in the eighth round of the Roshn Pro League. Any involvement will depend on medical and technical assessments of his fitness.

Al-Dawsari underwent knee tendon surgery in July, performed by Finnish specialist Lasse Lempainen, then began his rehabilitation and a gradual return to the pitch.

He made his Al-Hilal debut on 24 November 2011 in the Saudi Pro League, later opening his account for the capital club.
