Sales Stalled: Eberl Can’t Find Buyers for Bayern’s Flops | OneFootball

At FC Bayern, planning for the new season’s roster is in full swing. While numerous transfers have already been finalized, a trio of players continues to be a major concern for the club’s leadership, led by sporting director Max Eberl. João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza are expected to leave the club—but suitable buyers are hardly in sight so far.

The record champions want to further trim the roster while generating revenue. The Munich club is still hoping to sell Palhinha, Boey, and Zaragoza in particular. However, this won’t be an easy task.

As reported by *kicker*, there is currently a lack of concrete suitors, particularly for Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza. The situation is somewhat better for João Palhinha. According to the report, Benfica Lisbon and Aston Villa are showing interest in the Portuguese national team player. However, an agreement is not yet in sight, as Bayern Munich’s asking price is reportedly still too high for potential buyers.

Eberl makes it clear: The trio no longer plays a role

Sporting Director Max Eberl addressed the situation with unusual clarity on Wednesday. The Bayern boss made it unmistakably clear that Palhinha, Boey, and Zaragoza no longer have a future with the German record champions.

“We have three players whom we’re open to letting go. They have no future at Bayern,” Eberl explained.

At the same time, he sent a clear message to the players in question: “If they want to stay with us, it’s going to be tough because we’re not counting on them. They won’t play a role.”

Palhinha, in particular, had recently emphasized his desire to continue establishing himself at FC Bayern. After the friendly against SV Wehen Wiesbaden, the Portuguese player said, “I want to keep my spot here.” However, given Eberl’s statements, it seems highly unlikely that this wish will be granted.

Nearly 100 million euros tied up

For the Munich club, this personnel decision is also a sensitive issue from a financial perspective. João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza cost FC Bayern a combined total of just under 100 million euros when they were signed. However, none of the three has been able to establish himself as a regular starter.

Consequently, the record champions now want to recoup at least part of these investments through sales. So far, however, this has proven difficult.

Still, Bayern has already sold nine players this summer transfer window, bringing in around 35 million euros. The biggest return came from the transfer of young player Noel Aseko to Eintracht Frankfurt, which reportedly netted the Munich club around twelve million euros.

For Max Eberl, however, the search for buyers for Palhinha, Boey, and Zaragoza remains one of the most important priorities for the remainder of the transfer window. Only once the trio leaves the club will Munich likely regain the desired flexibility, both financially and in terms of squad planning.
