Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu (36) has signed a one-year deal at OGC Nice, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Nice had been looking for a backup keeper to Marcin Bulka. The former Paris Saint-Germain shotstopper beat Kasper Schmeichel to the number one jersey after impressing new manager Francesco Farioli in pre-season. As a result, the former Leicester City player was released from his Nice contract one year early on deadline day.
Les Aiglons therefore needed to dip back into the market for a back-up to Bulka, whose number one status at the club is undisputed. The former PSG player has been on trial at the club for the last week whilst Nice’s staff ascertained the Italian goalkeeper’s level of fitness.
Last season, Sirigu played just two matches for Fiorentina before the expiry of his contract in the summer. However, he has now found a new club. Whilst the move has not been officially confirmed by the club, Sirigu was on the bench as Nice beat PSG 3-2 at the Parc des Princes on Friday night.
